Scotsman Group

I joined the Scotsman Group in early 2022 as a Graphic Designer as part of the in house design team. Myself and 3 other designers create a hugely versatile body of work for 50+ hospitality venues across Scotland from bars, restaurants, hotels and cinemas. This role is very fast paced and demanding and every day brings new and exciting challenges to undertake from (but not limited to) brochures, posters, logo & branding, social & digital assets, menu designs, signage and even further print and digital marketing materials. I have full responsibility and control over my schedule and the design and printing process, working closely with our suppliers and in-house print team to ensure quality is met. Working for the Scotsman Group has helped me grow a wealth of knowledge about working within the hospitality sector to very quick turnarounds and within brand guidelines, and has boosted my confidence and design process immensely.

Below shows a snippet from the 100+ examples of the varied work I have completed during my time here thus far…

Oran Mor | Brand Refresh

In late 2022, the Scotsman Group acquired Oran Mor, a well known and much loved Glasgow institution. This is a huge venue, bar and events space at the top of Byres Road where weddings, concerts, dining and more take place. I had the privilege to be tasked with a refresh of the brand collateral, from the main bar menu to posters and marketing materials, I enjoyed taking on this challenge to do justice to the venue. I took inspiration from traditional Scottish culture, the iconic auditorium space which is adorned with Alasdair Gray’s celestial ceiling mural and the Burns paintings in the main bar (featuring extracts from his poems within the drinks menu)

As well as working the menus and marketing material I also had the chance to re-design the festive brochure, which was finished in gold foil. (see image below)

Riding Room | Menu Refresh

I took on re-designing the menu for Riding Room, an LGBTQ+ Cabaret and Cocktail bar in Glasgow, the venue had specified that they were looking for something that could replicate the feel of a Playbill. I took inspiration from the old and retro styles, and chose to create a ‘starring’ line up at start as the venue has resident performers.

October | Brand refresh
A contemporary and glam late night bar, located in Princes Square, Glasgow.

One of my favourite projects was working on a refresh of October, I dove deep into the cliental that frequented this glitzy, glam, girly bar with lots of pink and lots of booze! I took the challenge on to brighten up and modernise the existing collateral, from the posters, food & drink menus to internal & external signage. My proudest achievement being the opportunity to create a full vinyl advert wrap inside the internal lift at Princes Square, which would be seen by 100’s of people.
